The Tigers secured their first commitment for the 2027 recruiting class with four-star point guard Jason Gardner Jr. choosing Auburn over DePaul, Florida, Indiana, and Stanford.
Auburn, Ala. — Auburn basketball landed a major commitment for its future on Monday, securing a pledge from four-star point guard Jason Gardner Jr. out of Fishers, Indiana.
Gardner Jr., a consensus top-100 recruit and the son of former Arizona All-American point guard Jason Gardner Sr., becomes the first member of the Tigers' 2027 recruiting class under head coach Steven Pearl.
Ranked as the No. 64 overall player in the 247Sports composite rankings and the No. 14 point guard nationally, Gardner chose Auburn over a final group that included DePaul, Florida, Indiana, and Stanford.
Adam Finkelstein, 247Sports' director of scouting, praised Gardner as a "strong and athletic lead guard with an attacking style" who plays low to the ground and excels at getting downhill and absorbing contact.
Despite missing a portion of last high school season due to a broken bone in his left hand, Gardner averaged 20.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.4 steals across seven games for Fishers. He also averaged 15.0 points this summer on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit and enters his senior year as a top contender for Indiana Mr. Basketball.
"I'm a very athletic, dynamic guard that can create for others just as good as I can for myself with a great IQ and feel for the game," Gardner Jr. told Rivals. "I'm a winner. My high school record is 83-3 in the past three years and I plan on doing the same thing at Auburn."
