Auburn University is expanding its partnership with the U.S. Navy's Submarine Industrial Base Program Office to help more people in Alabama learn about career opportunities connected to America's submarine fleet.

The partnership brings together Auburn Athletics, Auburn's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering and BuildSubmarines.com. BuildSubmarines.com is a national platform that helps people find civilian jobs, training programs and employers connected to submarine construction and maintenance.

The goal is to raise awareness about the many careers needed to support the U.S. Navy's nuclear-powered submarines. Those jobs include engineering, manufacturing, skilled trades, technology and other fields.

Auburn will use its strong athletics platform to help spread the message. Fans will see BuildSubmarines.com featured on the Neville Arena court, along with other promotions inside Auburn athletic venues, online and through Auburn media.

Auburn Athletics Director John Cohen said the partnership is a good example of athletics supporting Auburn's academic strengths and helping with workforce development across the state.

Auburn's engineering college will also play a major role. The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering already sends many engineers into the workforce, and its Nuclear Power Generation Systems Program gives Auburn a strong connection to the needs of the submarine industry.

The partnership will also create more opportunities for Auburn students and faculty to connect with people working in the submarine industrial base. That could include career fairs, student ambassador programs, educational events and other workforce-focused activities.

Auburn engineering programs such as War Eagle Motorsports and the Autonomous Racing Team are also expected to be involved.

The larger goal is simple: Auburn wants to help more Alabamians understand that there are civilian career paths available in the work being done to build and support U.S. Navy submarines. Through its athletics reach, engineering expertise and statewide influence, Auburn is hoping to connect more people with those opportunities.
